Udyam (MSME) Registration
The MSME registration that unlocks priority lending, subsidy schemes and protection on delayed payments.
Udyam is the government registration that formally recognises your business as a micro, small or medium enterprise. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar system and is issued free of charge on the Udyam portal, based on your Aadhaar, PAN and GST details.
The certificate matters for practical reasons rather than symbolic ones. It is what you produce to claim priority sector lending, to bid for tenders reserved for MSMEs, and to invoke the delayed payment protections that are among the strongest remedies a small supplier has.
What this costs
UDYAM +
₹2,754 plus GST
- Application prepared for you
- Application submitted on your behalf
- UDYAM Number
- UDYAM Certificate
How the categories are decided
Classification depends on two figures together — investment in plant, machinery or equipment, and annual turnover. If either figure crosses the ceiling, the enterprise moves up a category.
- Micro — investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore
- Small — investment up to ₹25 crore and turnover up to ₹100 crore
- Medium — investment up to ₹125 crore and turnover up to ₹500 crore
- Figures are picked up automatically from your linked PAN and GST records
The delayed payment protection
This is the benefit most owners underuse. Under the MSMED Act, a buyer must pay a registered micro or small enterprise within the agreed period, and in any case within forty-five days of accepting the goods or services.
If they do not, compound interest runs at three times the RBI bank rate, and the dispute can be referred to the Micro and Small Enterprise Facilitation Council rather than fought in a civil court. Buyers are also required to disclose outstanding MSME dues in their own annual accounts, which creates useful pressure.
What else the certificate unlocks
- Collateral-free lending under the credit guarantee scheme
- Priority sector classification, which improves the terms banks can offer
- Exemption from earnest money deposit in many government tenders
- Access to tenders and procurement quotas reserved for MSMEs
- Subsidies on patent and trademark filing fees in several schemes
- State-level incentives on electricity tariff and stamp duty in Maharashtra
How we handle it
- 1 Confirming eligibility and category We check your investment and turnover figures against the thresholds so the enterprise is classified correctly from the start.
- 2 Identifying the activity code The right NIC code is selected for your line of business, which affects the schemes you can later claim under.
- 3 Filing on the Udyam portal The application is submitted with Aadhaar authentication and your PAN and GST details linked.
- 4 Certificate issued The Udyam registration number and e-certificate are generated, usually the same day, and sent to you.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a government fee for Udyam registration?
None. The portal issues the certificate free. Any site charging a government fee for it is not passing on a real cost. What you pay us is a professional fee for handling the filing correctly.
Does the registration need renewal?
No. It has no expiry. The classification updates automatically as your PAN and GST figures change, and you should update the record if your activity or address changes.
Can a trader register under Udyam?
Yes. Wholesale and retail traders were brought within the scheme, though they are eligible for a narrower set of benefits than manufacturers and service providers, mainly on the lending side.
Can I register more than one business on the same Aadhaar?
One enterprise gets one Udyam number, but a single Aadhaar holder can register separate enterprises. All activities of one enterprise are covered under its single registration.
What if a buyer refuses to pay within forty-five days?
You can claim compound interest at three times the RBI bank rate and refer the matter to the Facilitation Council. Holding a valid Udyam certificate at the time of supply is what makes that remedy available.
What is not included. Government fees, statutory charges, stamp duty, court and registry fees, digital signature costs and any third-party professional charges are separate and payable at actuals. GST applies on professional fees where indicated. Prices shown are indicative and may change without notice; we confirm the total in writing before any work begins — see our terms on pricing.
