Press Release Distribution

A written announcement placed with news outlets to build visibility around a launch, funding round or milestone.

A press release is a written announcement issued to news outlets, and distribution places it with publications that may choose to carry it. It is used around a launch, a funding round, an appointment or a milestone.

What it buys is reach and the possibility of coverage. It does not buy editorial endorsement, and being precise about that distinction is the difference between a service that delivers and one that disappoints.

What distribution actually delivers

A release is placed with a network of outlets, many of which publish syndicated content. That produces a set of published links, often quickly.

It does not produce a journalist writing about you. Editorial coverage comes from a reporter finding the story worth their time, which distribution can prompt but cannot guarantee. Any service promising guaranteed coverage in a named publication is describing paid placement, and that should be disclosed as such.

What makes a release worth issuing

  • A genuine news event — a launch, a raise, an acquisition, a significant appointment
  • A specific, verifiable claim rather than general self-description
  • A quote from a named person that says something, rather than praising the company
  • Numbers where they exist, since they are what makes a story concrete
  • Contact details for a person who will actually respond to a journalist
  • Timing that does not collide with a larger story in the same sector

Where releases fail

  • The announcement is not news to anyone outside the company
  • Superlatives replacing specifics — leading, innovative, revolutionary
  • Quotes that could have been said by any executive about any company
  • No numbers, no named customers, nothing verifiable
  • Buried lead, where the actual news is in the fourth paragraph
  • No follow-up capacity when a journalist does respond

Regulated claims

Announcements touching financial products, health claims, or comparative statements about competitors carry legal exposure. Advertising standards and consumer protection rules apply to a press release as they do to any other commercial communication.

Where a release makes a claim of that kind, we will flag it. A retraction is more damaging than the original coverage was valuable.

How we handle it

  1. 1 Assessing the announcement We establish whether there is genuine news here, and say so where a release would not achieve anything.
  2. 2 Drafting The release is written with the news in the first paragraph and the supporting detail below it.
  3. 3 Reviewing claims Any regulated or comparative claim is flagged before issue.
  4. 4 Approval The draft is confirmed with you, including the quote attributed to your spokesperson.
  5. 5 Distribution The release is distributed to the agreed network, timed to the announcement.
  6. 6 Reporting You receive a report of where it was carried, with the published links.

Frequently asked questions

Will this get us covered in a major publication?

Distribution places the release with a network and produces published links. It does not guarantee a journalist writing about you. Anyone promising coverage in a named publication is describing paid placement.

What makes a release worth issuing?

Genuine news with something specific and verifiable in it. An announcement that is not news outside the company will be distributed and ignored, which is money spent for a set of dead links.

Can you write the quote for us?

We draft it and you approve it. A quote attributed to a named person should say something that person would actually say, rather than praise the company in the abstract.

Are there claims we cannot make?

Financial, health and comparative claims carry legal exposure, and advertising and consumer protection rules apply to a release as to any commercial communication. We flag those before issue.

What do we receive afterwards?

A report of where the release was carried with the published links. We do not report on impressions or reach figures that cannot be verified.

What is not included. Government fees, statutory charges, stamp duty, court and registry fees, digital signature costs and any third-party professional charges are separate and payable at actuals. GST applies on professional fees where indicated. Prices shown are indicative and may change without notice; we confirm the total in writing before any work begins — see our terms on pricing.
